Campaign for Decriminalisation
Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi has tabled an amendment, NC1, to the 'Crime and Policing Bill,' which is currently progressing through Parliament. This amendment would essentially remove women from the criminal statute in relation to abortion and if passed would put an end to the prosecution of women for ending their own pregnancy.

Breaking siloes: Abortion beyond the clinic
On Friday 20th June 2025, Drs for Choice UK and Abortion Talk are back with their second joint annual conference at the Fetal Medicine Research Institute, King's College Hospital Denmark Hill, London.
This year, we aim to break abortion siloes by centering our focus on abortion outside the clinic, locating abortion within broader feminist movements for autonomy, self-determination, and justice. Expect panels on the solidarity between diverse, ongoing struggles for bodily autonomy; the grassroots feminist activism of 'abortion accompaniment'; and challenging abortion stigma from an intersectional perspective.
Response to the court case of a woman accused of illegal abortion, cleared by a jury in Isleworth Crown Court
βAlthough we are relieved by the verdict in this case, it is hugely shameful that this trial took place at all. We watched with renewed horror as yet another woman was dragged through the criminal justice system in Britain for ending her own pregnancy. It is a disgrace that a piece of law from 1861, before women had the right to vote, is being used to subject people to lengthy, intrusive and distressing investigations, causing life-changing harm to women and their families. As our hearts go out to the latest victim of our archaic and cruel abortion laws, we renew our calls for the urgent decriminalisation of abortion in Britain. We are also dismayed by the gross violation of confidentiality shown by a healthcare professional in this case, who instead of acting with compassion, and with respect to this basic principle, picked up the phone to the police. We remind our healthcare colleagues of the importance of acting in accordance with the principle of confidentiality, both for our patients, as well for protecting trust in the profession.'
